Fine Art Friday – The Nut Brown Maid

The Nut Brown Maid by Sir George Clausen, 1927
Christie’s
This piece is less impressionistic, more modern.
Not so decidedly peasant.
And yet, still very Clausen.

  1. Yes, I’d love to know what she’s thinking….. her demeanor is pensive, but her face appears sunburnt.  Perhaps she’s just uncomfortable. In which room in your home would you hang this portrait?

  2. I like the contrast of the green background–which is so flat–to the character, which gives her so much more dimension. She definitely a serious one, but her eyes are very striking.
