Fine Art Friday

A Child’s Question by Jessie Wilcox Smith

There’s nothing particular about this piece I’d like to say.  It was just a Jessie Wilcox Smithish sort of day and this caught both my eye and my heart.  I watched three young sisters (1,3,5) last weekend and I saw some of this mothering take place.

Tomorrow is graduation day for my hard-working daughter-in-law.  Hooray!  We’re headed up to Pullman, WA to join in the celebration of this achievement.  Taryn and Carson met at a campus Christian group in their freshman year.  When they discovered that they had both started home schooling in the fifth grade they knew it must be God’s will that they get married (just kidding!).

Taryn will graduate (some kind of) cum laud with a degree in journalism.  We are so pleased with her perseverance and excellence.  She is and continues to be such a blessing to our son.  Go girl!  Carson will begin a six month [paying] internship in June.   It is lovely to watch them grow and flourish.

Pomp and Circumstance just makes me well up and cry.  I can’t decide if it is the tune itself or the associations with it.  But the best part of graduation is the exuberant joy and the delicious relief when the caps are thrown. L’chaim!

  1. Sweet, sweet picture 🙂
I know you will enjoy the weekend because of the accomplishments it represents.  You definitely have *braggin’ rights* as we say here.  Therefore, you are hereby granted at two full weeks of saying all kinds of wonderful things about your graduates.  Post a picture, too!

  2. wow! 2 couples from “THE county” in our area at the same time! Will we get to see you? Your pastor and wife will be spending the weekend with us….Enjoy your graduation!! What fun and how proud you must be!

  3. Aw, Noel, I’d love to see you…BUT this is a quick trip and the festivities will take most of our time. Have a great time with my dear friends. You are going to have to make a trip down here to the shire someday!

  4. One of my best friend’s is heading to Pullman tomorrow to see her daughter’s boyfriend graduate! What a small world it is. Have a wonderful trip.

  5. Pullman? I never visited there but my uncle was head of the English Department at WSU for many years. (Long before your time – lol!) They used to come east for the summer every other year and I always looked forward to playing with my cousins. Have a lovely time with your family.I love that picture too. The older child’s haircut is the kind I had as a small child. I don’t recall having any dresses quite like those though, so it must date back to a FEW years before my time!!

  6. By now you have found the book in your box, I hope…perhaps the postman will take it away, then I will really be in for it… : (  As I wrote, our Jeeves got to te corner of the book. I will replace it is you would like. I’m  not in the habit of letting dogs have at books, we had one puppy, ages ago, that chewed absolutly everything (plugged in electric cords didn’t phase him) He had a great time with a beanbag chair in the garage.
Anyway, direct me, mortified me as you wish…Perhaps a lunch when I’m in town one day would be fair recompense?
