Doesn’t Baby’s Feeding Time look positively Vermeerish?  I love the shoes in these pictures, the elevated feet, the simplicity of the backgrounds and the touches of elegance the moms show.   You can almost hear the soundtrack for the lower piece, can’t you?

  1. Yes! Vermeer was my very first thought! I love them both, especially that little look on the girl with the basket, “Here my little doves….”. What do you suppose they are doing? Really feeding the birds? And I love the colors in the second painting. Did you catch those shoes? I love ’em!I’m also interested in us adding how or why we chose the art that we post for Fine Art Friday. The reason I chose mine (and I believe I’ll go and add this to my original post) because I was searching “All Things Considered” at NPR for a recent book that was discussed. (Never did find it.) And this painting was on their site for some reason that I didn’t pay attention to. I just loved the painting. So, Carol, why or how did you come across this lovely art by Giuseppe Magni (whom I goggled and could not find anything)? Janie at Seasonal Soundings

  2. Janie, My SIL gave me the neatest little book called _Cooks Quotations, A Collection of Fine Paintings and the Best Cooking Quotes_. One of the pictures is by Giuseppe Magni (they spelled it Guiseppe). I searched under Google Images and found these. I DID catch the shoes. I love them, but you wouldn’t catch me wearing them – I’m not that brave!! These pictures ooze with contentment.

  3. Is this the same artist that has the picture of the family at table with a horse looking in the door?  – and, I just might try on a pair of shoes like that, you know, for a change.  My workabout shoes at this point look VERY LIKE Millet’s peasants!! They are fake birkenstock clog-type hand me downs from Jen.  I think I’ll find my tennies.

Comments are cinnamon on my oatmeal!
