Sissy Spacek’s performance
is one of the very best I’ve ever heard,
of all the audio books I’ve enjoyed.
The southern lilt of her voice was
an impeccable match for Scout Finch’s narrative.
Our family sat in the living room and listened
to the final three discs last night.
Scout, Jem, Atticus Finch, Dill, Boo Radley…
these are characters which have
taken up residence with us.
Why not consider listening to a book together?
If your local library doesn’t have this, consider
asking them to purchase it.
Or add it to your personal library.
You’ll want to listen more than once.
I agree – I listened to this audio version earlier this year, and her voice and interpretation were perfect.

Listening on CD was the way I finally accomplished the *reading* of the Chronicles of Narnia. Locked in the car for two 11-hr shifts, I was able to hear most of the books.
I agree that listening to information read aloud is a skill which should be learned. Unfortunately, the average American’s attention span is 45 min or less. Who pays attention to that (not our preacher), but lawyers!! They make sure that their case is stated in that time frame.
Just my two cents.
And yes, I love Harper Lee’s only novel.
Isn’t it wonderful when you find a great narrator. We’re avid Books-on-Tapes (or whatever they’re called now that “tapes” are going the way of the 8 Track) listeners too.
Thanks for the comment! I still haven’t read that book…I’ll have to see if the library has it.
I will be praying for that young lady! A healthy and joyful Merry Christmas to you, too!
I’m so happy you all finally had the chance to listen to this wonderful story!!!
Oh, I want to hear it! Cassie and I read the book last year and we watched the movie, but I’d love to hear Sissy Spacek reading it. I’m going to check our library!Blessings,Sandy
