The Village Wedding by Sir Samuel Luke Fildes
My son and his fianceé have been spending their last week before school starts with us. We’ve been working on loose ends for their December wedding. I wanted Fine Art Friday to reflect this week and thought of Fildes picture. I love the way aspect of community in this celebration and the cross-generational participation. (Aside – I love seeing younger children at weddings and wince whenever I read “no children please” printed on invitations.)
Happy Friday, all!
What a sweet picture of fellowship….been working on wedding plans here, too.
You can hear the giggling and laughing going on in the first picture, can’t you? I LOVE the “photoshop” ones. It reminds me of my cousin’s wedding- all different colors, ethnicities, music, dancing. Weddings are a wonderful.
thing.
Lovely pictures – all of them. Weddings are so special. I agree with you that children should be allowed at weddings. But they should be expected not to cause too much of a ruckus either. Maybe the reason some people specify no children is that the children of their friends have never been taught how to behave in public!! I would bet that the children in The Village Wedding knew what was expected of them – in the picture they look as though they are having a lovely time but they aren’t being unduly rowdy either.
Oh Dorrice, I agree. It is equally sad to have disruptive children ruin a special occasion. But I think it’s so vitally important if we are to transfer some of this “Christian culture” thing to the next generation to have them participate in our celebrations. One of my most favorite wedding stories is about one of Btolly’s daughters. When said daughter was six, a male family friend got married. As the bride was coming up the aisle, young six year old muttered, “It should have been me!” =)
