Kitchen Project

My deep cleaning project for the next few months is my kitchen.  I’m taking absolutely everything out of each drawer and cupboard and cleaning with bleach before I put it back in beautiful array. I wrote in this post that “I’m convinced if I don’t love a clean house I won’t be consistent in keeping it clean.”  I attacked the silver ware drawer first.  And after I’d taken out the knives, forks and spoons I was aghast at how ghastly it really was. YIKES!

I made a conscious decision to go with wood as much as possible and get rid of the plastic crap.  Sorry folks, but that’s how I feel.

My husband about croaked when I bought stainless steel measuring spoons that cost five times what the plastic ones cost.  Ya know, if we can’t splurge once in a while when we are almost 50, then when will we, I ask you?

My 16 year old son bets that I won’t keep it clean, with a wee bit of cynicism in that tone.  Thank you, my laddie.  You have just given me the right kind of inspiration. I’m still at the stage of perfect stacks of forks and spoons.  Hah!  This too shall pass.  Don’t despise the day of small beginnings.  It’s a good start that I love to keep this drawer clean!

  1. You are on the right track!   Break the task down into manageable portions and before you know it, the project will be completed;  one drawer at the time!
I need to do this and perhaps taking a *before* picture and being embarassed by it will be the trick to get me started.  I have stacks of clothes to go through, the basement to organize, and every closet/drawer in the house where we have lived for 19+ years!!
    Not fun.

  2. Amen, Dana. One drawer at a time. Or, in the case of a packed closet…one type of clothing at a time…or one shelf, or one side. Whatever makes it manageable. Hooray for wood in the drawers. A nice improvementI am trying to do one room a month at my house rather than making a few weeks in the summer totally miserable. With my small house, that gives me time to do the pantry one month and the Laundry Room (worthy of uppercase letters!) another month. Plus, there’s still time to do the garage…or not do the garage and just think about doing it (-:YOU GO, CAROL! You can do it.Diane

  3. I also purchased stainless steel measuring cups and spoons a few years ago~~even got a nice, long handled set that is great for dipping in the bag of bread flour. I think it would be nice to have a bridal shower every 25 years or so, don’t you?

  4. Good for you, Carol;! Go for it! You are inspiring me to start a similar project when I get home. (I haven’t been posting so probably you don’t know I am off visiting my daughter Marianne in South Florida.) Trouble is she has gotten me interested in orchids, of which she has a VAST collection. Another daughter has me back knitting again, after a hiatus of several years. So when do I have time to practice piano and do what I am SUPPOSED to be doing? My priority has to remain the music at church. But one thng is sure: I will have to reorganize my porch to give the orchids a nice home.

  5. I am envious. I love!!!!!!! clean. I am waiting until my little grandson and his mommy and daddy get moved out. Then any cleaning I get done will actually stay that way for a tiny bit longer.

  6. That looks WONDERFUL!I’m ready for another bridal shower, and we haven’t hit our fourth anniversary yet. We didn’t have ANYTHING (neither of us had ever lived on our own, outside of the dorm) and we registered for mostly necessities, not things of beauty and lasting value. I’d love some china and silver and even nicer everyday plates!

  7. OOO you got the wooden boxes for keeping everything straight! Kool! Are you going to continue that with the other drawers?…I find my silverware disappearing at a worse rate than when my kiddos used to use them for sandbox play.

Comments are cinnamon on my oatmeal!
