Listening or talking? Good point!!! I suppose it is the one of the few times where talking should take priority over listening.
I am thoroughly enjoying The Kite Runner. I am right in the middle (a hard spot in the book) right after Amir first goes back to Kabul to hear the news from Rahim Kahn (I’m sure you remember the spot … I’ll say no more in case some reading this have not read the book!)
I could hardly put it down last night … but finally had to in order to be awake for the Lord’s Day! I’ll most certainly call you when I’m done. I think you, Katie, Jordan, Curt and I (and any others who have read it) should have a round table discussion. There are many profundities in it.
You are so right – Hassan’s portrayal of Christ is beautiful. And yet, as you said, from an unbelieving perspective. HOW???? It is very convicting.
I agree with Jackie about a round table discussion on the book. There are many poignant ideas he sets forth.
Dr. M. Lloyd-Jones is one of my favorite authors of all time, and that particular book specifically. I should re-read it, it has been over 20 years now(!!!!) and with my memory as it is…well, I should re- read it. :0)
I think it is also important that if talking to one’s self we speak words of truth, not lies of our imaginations.

The Psalmist is a good example of this in Psalm 42. He seems to take himself by the collar and say, “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted with in me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance.”
