When Carson was in third grade his class did the Wizard of Oz as a play. Carson was cast as a munchkin. I was 35 and had never seen the movie. I don’t know why I didn’t rent the video and do a little research… In my mind a munchkin sounded like a dwarf. So I dressed Carson with big, baggy clothes stuffed with pillows to give the impression of short and chunky.
When the kids came out on the stage I had my first hot flash! OhmygoshIwassoooooembarassed! Carson is nothing if he isn’t resilient and he weathered all the laughter and teasing without once reproaching me.

When I was in 8th grade the choir teacher said to wear dark skirts to the concert. I wore my dark orange skirt.
My mother was mortified. I stuck out! I really didn’t do it on purpose….but I’m afraid my mother thought I did…and was highly embarrassed :o(
And…how on earth could you grow up in the United States. and not seen The Wizard of Oz????
Donna, that’s another blog entry. I grew up without a TV in the house. My father nixed it to encourage us to read more. We didn’t get one ourselves until we had been married almost 10 years. Movies were prohibited also. Unless they were shown in the church gymnasium. So it just slipped by me. Just one of those things, I guess! After Carson’s fiasco I watched it the first chance I got. Oh my, my face still gets red thinking about it.
